Additional information
Description | Glyco-obeticholic acid is an active metabolite of obeticholic acid (6-ECDCA; Item No. 11031), which functions as a farnesoid X receptor (FXR) agonist and is a semisynthetic derivative of chenodeoxycholic acid (Item No. 10011286) [1]. Glyco-obeticholic acid is produced through glycine conjugation in the liver from obeticholic acid but can revert to obeticholic acid via microbial-mediated deconjugation in the ileum and colon [2]. It has been utilized as a precursor in the synthesis of bile acid analogs that act as agonists for the farnesoid X receptor (FXR) and TGR5 [2]. |
